Kevin Smith, screenwriter, filmmaker, actor and Jason Mewes' surrogate father, happened to be late for his Washington Post online live discussion today, citing technical difficulties like the subject line of this post. "Clerks II", the sequel to 1994's hugely popular "Clerks", is coming to theaters July 21st, and you can bet your ass we'll be going. What were Kevin's answers for viewers today? Well, here we go:
- Yep, he's been mistaken by some to be an overweight Joey Fatone, a member of N'Synch. People get pissed when he says he's not Joey, and accuse him of trying to look like him.
- He did "Clerks II" for the love, not for the money. (The money always helps if you look like an overweight Joey Fatone, though.)
- He says you'll laugh when you see the new flick, although having a "2" in the title tends for viewers to have some expectations of what they'll see. Some people like it, some don't.
- Smith's Silent Bob character exists so he can be in the movies and not memorize the monologues he writes for other cast members.
- A "Clerks" comic is on the way he says, telling the story of how Dante and Randal got their jobs at "Clerks II's" Mooby's Restaurant .
- Thinks the "Ben and Jen" (Ben Affleck/Jennifer Lopez) relationship and Lopez's pink diamond were more important to the public than the "Jersey Girl" movie (Heh. :)) Doesn't have that problem with "Clerks II."
- "Fletch" movies are off the table for Smith, since he can't get Jason Lee cast as young Fletcher.
- Movie line most repeated by fans to Smith: "What's a Nubian?"
